Grand Island Nebraska Collegians 1912

Long term minor league player Jim Cockman took over the Grand Island franchise as manager in 1912. He played for Lincoln NE in the Western League from 1909-1911. Grand Island had a working relationship with Omaha and Pa Rourke sent a few players to Grand Island for "seasoning" when they struggled while playing in Omaha.

Grand Island wound up in the middle of the pack in 1912.

Roster;
Del Fullen played 108 games at first and averaged .236. He started in the Kansas State League in 1909, played for Fremont in the NSL in 1910 and 1911 and had a brief stint with Seward before moving to Grand Island in 1912.

E. Rushenburg played in the infield in 1912. He averaged .237 in 62 games.

Manager Jim Cockman also played the hot corner and averaged .262. Jim played for Lincoln from 1909-1011. He had a cup of coffee with the Yankees in 1905.

Omar Firestine came from the Texas League to play in Grand Island in 1912. He averaged .304 in 102 games.

Ed Jokerst put on the tools of ignorance in 1912. He played for Great Bend, Wichita, Clarinda and Waterloo during his minor league days. He averaged .245 in 83 games for Grand Island.

Frank Coe was the main catcher for Grand Island in 1912. He played many years in the Western Association. He averaged .253 in 101 games.

Charles McKibben averaged .299 while tending the garden for 109 games.

Clausman was the leading pitcher for Grand Island in 1912. He was 21-11 in 40 games.

Clay Schoonover averaged .311 in 41 games. He played for Omaha in 1910 and 1911 and was sent by Pa to Grand Island in 1912. He played for GI in 1912, 1913 and 1914. He also played for Oshkosh in 1914. After stops in Rockford, Cedar Rapids and Alton he found himself back in Grand Island in 1928 as player manager for Grand Island in 1928.

Roy Fentress was 8-4 in 1912. He was another Pa Rourke find. He played for the Rourkes in 1910 and 1911 before being sent to Grand Island. He wound up with Fort Worth from 1913-1916 then Memphis from 1917-1919.

L. Hartman was 8-14. He was 12-18 in 1911 for Grand Island.

Menke was 6-15 in 1912,
